Designing the Kinetic Golden Flapper Wall for SINGHA D’LUCK Cinematic Theatre
For SINGHA D’LUCK Cinematic Theatre in Pattaya, Thailand, Architects 49 (A49) envisioned a striking kinetic façade composed of golden diamond-shaped flappers — a bold architectural feature intended to bring movement, reflection and visual energy to the building exterior.
Working from this architectural vision, Kinzi developed the complete wall system, transforming A49’s design intent into a buildable and fully functional kinetic façade.
From Architectural Vision to Engineered Reality
A49 established the visual concept of the façade, while Kinzi developed the complete system required to make that concept work in practice.
Kinzi designed the aluminium flappers, their arrangement across the wall, cable connections, supporting structure and the details required for each element to move freely.
The challenge was not only to achieve the intended appearance, but also to ensure that the entire façade could perform as a kinetic system under real environmental conditions.
Engineering Smooth and Continuous Movement
Each diamond-shaped flapper needed to respond naturally to wind while remaining properly supported within the overall wall.
Kinzi therefore developed the flapper components, connection system and supporting structure as one integrated system.
The geometry and connection details had to allow each element to move smoothly without catching, interfering with neighbouring flappers or becoming restricted by the structure.
This careful balance between movement, support and repeatability was essential to achieving the dynamic character envisioned by A49.
Design Development, Manufacturing and Installation
Kinzi carried the project through design development, engineering, manufacturing and installation.
The result was a large kinetic wall in which hundreds of individual elements work together to create a continuously changing architectural surface.
As wind moves across the building, the golden flappers respond independently, producing shifting reflections and movement across the façade.
